After seven years with Garcia Media, a new direction for Reed Reibstein

Reed Reibstein, our director of product design, will be departing to pursue a new position that will allow him to focus on user experience for the products of American City Business Journals.

It’s a new position for Reed Reibstein, our director of product design who has also served as art director & project manager and an intern during his seven-year tenure with Garcia Media.

Reed has taken a position as a senior user experience and product designer with American City Business Journals and will operate from ACBJ’s headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. He begins in October.

We are sorry to say goodbye to Reed. He has served Garcia Media and its clients well, and we are thankful for the seven years we could share his talents. It is time for a new adventure in a new city and new worlds to discover in this wonderful and ever-changing profession of ours.

Reed asked me to share his thoughts on leaving Garcia Media:

“Only a few months into my first year of college, the editor of the Yale Daily News called me into his office. He told me that he planned to hire Mario García to redesign the News. When I met Mario and he offered me an internship that summer, my jaw dropped. Almost eight years later, I still find myself scarcely believing that I have been fortunate enough to work with Mario. As an intern in college, an art director and project manager after graduating, and, most recently, director of product design, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with a multitude of fantastic clients across four continents, from large news companies like McClatchy and Postmedia to smaller organizations like Columbia Journalism Review and Catholic Extension.

“During a period of dramatic change in the media industry, I have been able to design for every platform in the 'media quintet,' enjoying the challenge of moving back and forth among print, responsive web, tablet, mobile, and now even wearables. I have also been privileged to work with the extraordinarily talented García Media design team, from whom I have learned a great deal about visual excellence and innovative storytelling. Most of all, it has been an honor to call Mario my mentor and friend. I am excited to tackle new challenges with the wonderful and ambitious team at American City Business Journals, and I know that García Media will continue to do fantastic, cutting-edge work for its clients around the world.”
