Times of London’s proposed website and role of frequency

The Times of London is proposing  morning, lunchtime and afternoon editions for its website, a clear call for more attention to the issue of frequency.

The two-tempo philosophy for the presentation of news continues to be a subject of great interest.  The announcement that the Times of London is planning to go with the concept of editioning for its website will be the more recent example of how the curated tempo——selected content distributed at specific times of day—is gaining momentum.

What I see here is that the Times will use its mobile devices for the fast tempo (as in breaking news), while the website’s editions, planned for morning, lunchtime and afternoon, will offer curated material, the type we crave for at those times of the day when we pause.

As we look towards smart watches as the latest platform in which we will receive information, we will probably be witnessing greater differentiations between the tempos. The Times of London’s proposal is an indication of that.

There is no set date yet for when the Times will introduce the new editions.
