Argentina’s La Nacion: Content Lab & Innovation

It may be one of the first Latin American major dailies to go into the creation of a unit where sponsored content may find a home.

This is the weekend edition of TheMarioBlog and will be updated as needed. The next blog post is Monday, May 27.

Update 1: Milan, Saturday, May 25, 9:22 a.m

I am interested to read about La Nacion’s Content Lab, and to dissect the various offerings it will have to attract not only digital audiences, but also advertising customers.

We have already seen how The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal have capitalized on their own “studios” to create content that specific advertising clients pay for.

I was not aware of this taking place in Latin America so far.

Let’s take a look at what the Content Lab will do:

The graphic below, in Spanish, informs us of five offerings.

#Social Media

An exclusive format for social media, contemplating the use of videos, photos and GIFs

#Sponsored Content

This will be paid content but presented with editorial invent.  Content determined by advertiser, edited by the Content Lab team according to La Nacion’s editorial parameters.

#ContentLab Standard

Also advertising space.  Content is generated by the ContentLab team, includes photos and videos. Includes social media.

#ContentLab Premium

Sponsored content, generated by ContentLab team includes text, photos and videos, as well as infographics.

#Content Lab Ultra

Sponsored content with editorial format. Content generated by Content Lab team. From 3 to 5 social media promotions.

The Theresa May resignation in the news

A teary eyed Theresa May on the front pages I catch at the Lufthansa Lounge at Milan’s Malpensa International Airport. The tearful Prime Minister announced her resignation Friday after her failure to deliver a successful Brexit deal. Experts anticipate political chaos in the coming Conservative leadership contest. God help the UK. Funny, most of the Brits I know DO NOT want Brexit.

Mario’s speaking engagements

Mario addressing the INMA 19 Congress in New York City May 15, 2019.

Here are places where I will be taking the message of mobile storytelling in the weeks ahead:

June 12, NEC Media City, Bergen, Norway, Storytelling workshop for Editors

June 13, Fortellingens kraft 2019, Bergen, Norway, Long form Mobile Storytelling for Writers

July 11, Florida Media Conference, St. Petersburg, FL, Keynote for editors: The mobile first newspaper strategy.

Mario’s weekend rituals…..

Monocle interviews me about what I do on a typical weekend (is there such a thing? Not for someone like me who is seldom in the same location twice. But I gave it my best shot, for what may come as a normal weekend, when I am home in New York! Enjoy.
