Here I see a copy of one of my most fun projects ever, Kleine Zeitung, of Graz. This newspaper has the ideal format. If I were a newspaper owner/publisher, I would make this newspaper in the so called A4 format, smaller than a tabloid and almost the size of the screen of the iPad Pro. Handy. Easy to maneuver. Fun to design for this size pages, as you can see here. Notice below a copy of Kleine Zeitung next to one of Kurier (a newspaper with which I conducted a two-day workshop this week in Vienna). Kurier follows a standard tabloid format. Notice the difference.
The magazines go petit, too
When you look around news kiosks in Europe you will also see many magazines published in small formats, as you see here.
Notice that The Escapist, a sister publication to Monocle, is in the small magazine format.
