Just in time for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, O Globo, of Brazil, is publishing a daily tabloid supplement with news about the event, with free distribution. This is the second in a series of blog posts about how media companies, too, enter the competition for the audience's attention during the ultlimate sports event.

O Globo’s freely distributed supplement during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games

Last week, O Globo, one of Brazil’s largest circulation dailies, started to publish ‘O Globo Olímpico’, a tabloid supplement to be distributed at the Olympic village.

The 16-page special produced totally by the O Globo team, appears with content in both Portuguese and English.

Content includes daily updates about schedules, the highlights of the Brazilian team’s participation, a cultural calendar and service news for those interested in pursuing activities in and out of the Games arenas.

The supplement is produced by two teams, one Brazilian and one foreign. The Brazilian part of the supplement is headed by editor Pedro Só with two journalists, Roberto de Araújo and Mário Silveira, while the English version is headed by Nicholas Ellerby, accompanied by the US journalists Anne Branigin and Jonell Yablonski.
